"We are a family of four and had an unbelievable time in Scotland. Our stay at the Arches played a big role in our experience. The Arches is a quintessential Scottish stay, surrounded by castles and countryside escape. Our kids enjoyed the beautiful evening walks to see horses and bunnies. From day 1, Phil was a pleasure and lovely. The house is modern, clean and plenty of Scottish culture. Phil was very hospitable and went out of his way to check in on us. Thank you Phil - we will be seeing you again." Jayesh July 2026
"Phil and Jude's cottage is a peaceful haven nestled in the heart of the countryside, just 30 minutes from the centre of Edinburgh by car or train (Gorebridge station). The house is spacious, well-equipped and beautifully decorated, and the welcome is impeccable and friendly." Vanessa August 2026
"Modern, warm, clean, spacious, it had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Friendly hosts. We enjoyed watching the House-Martins nesting nearby feeding their young, sheep and their lambs in a nearby field, convenient proximity to the railway station." Sheila May 2026
"Lovely quiet location, everything you need for a home-from-home stay. Phil and Jude were very welcoming, met us at the property, which was a nice touch. Log fire in the wood-burning stove was very cosy at night. Bedrooms were comfy." Jennifer May 2026
"The Arches is a beautiful place to stay, clean, spacious & homely with great scenery on your doorstep, which was great for walking our dog in the woods, nearby to the castle & church. We got a train to Edinburgh, the station is only less than 10 minutes away & 30 min train journey. Gorebridge & Newtongrange weren’t too far away either for amenities. The hosts were lovely & helpful too." Gemma Jan 2026
"Phil & Jude were great hosts and their house was more than we could have asked for. The house was immaculate and had everything needed for a short stay. Location is great, nice and rural but within an easy 30 min drive to the heart of Edinburgh. House was spacious and comfortably slept 4 adults and 4 kids as Jude kindly set up 2 camp beds for 2 of the children. Wouldn't hesitate to book again, the only disappointment was having to leave!" Lee May 2019
"Phil, Jude and Angus were great hosts and made my family very welcome throughout our stay. The location is beautiful and house is lovely, done out to a high spec. The extra touches like fresh flowers, wine and cookies on arrival were all very nice. We can't wait to come back!" Paul March 2019
